I have a bunch of rocks with GHA established on them that I would like to remove. I want to remove these rocks from the tank to clean them with a toothbrush. Should I place them in a bucket of RO water or wait until I do a water change and use old tank water?

I'd use the old tank water. Remove as much algae as you can before you pull the rocks. Use a bowl of water, pull the algae, dump in bowl and wash hands. Repeat. A few snails will help help finish the job. No need to pull and scrub.

I would use the old tank water, so as not to destroy the beneficial bacteria colonizing them.

Just did this last night on my 125g. Started with a water change and used the old water to pull the rocks one by one and scrub with a toothbrush and put back. Tank looks a lot better now! Funny thing is while doing this my Female clown was attacking my hand and come to find out i have clownfish eggs! Who would have known cleaning the rocks would produce babies!!

The only good thing I can say about getting GHA, is that it stop my clowns from having babies. She used to try and destroy my arm anytime it went in the tank. Now she is more calm. Nice fishy

Yea they will probably stop now that I destroyed there little house but I wanted the algae gone!

Established rocks, how old. Pics?
I had hair algae in my frag tank and removed as much as I could by hand and forcepts and a tooth brush.
Dosed api algaefix after removal and every 3 days.
Today going to a once a week dose after 2 weeks of every 3 days.
Algae is gone.
I like this stuff as it is out of your system in 24 hours and kills the spores.
Not a fan of chems but this stuff works and did not affect corals, fish or inverts.
Am now going to use it in my 120.
You need to get as much as you can out of your system by hand then dose.
This seems to work the best as manual removal becomes much easier after around dose 3.
After removal and scrubbing with tooth brush dose algaefix.
I dose in tank with return pump off and in tank flow on.
Let run for 1/2 hour then turn return pump back on.

I'm wanting to pull the rocks because they are loose. When i pull in the gha sometimes it moves and lifts the rocks. I have a couple smaller nems that I don't want to hurt. Working 12 hours today, will try to get pictures later.
