Remove pad from sump? RSR625XXL

Howdy all.

I have a RSR 625XXL, There is a large black foam pad in the bubble trap of the sump. I'm thinking it's going to do nothing but build up gunk. Would y'all recommend removing it, or leaving it in? How often should it be cleaned?

I use to rinse mine out once a month in my 525xl for about two years. Then it started to shred apart so I removed it and put in a couple of marine pure plates.
 
Most any pads will only build up w/ detritus and probably will bump your nitrates.
even filter socks can do this if not changed or cleaned every 3-4 days.

A properly baffled sump should not need pads as bubble traps
