Did your tank show any negative effects with the elevated aluminum? I have 3 in my tank for over a year now and I have a mixed reef with no issues.

I see that people use them and have success with them...seems like the perfect solution for folks that want minimal rock in their display.

At the time I had mine I was too new to troubleshoot effectively. Someone mentioned to me they had aluminum at the time and I sent my water off to a company callled aqua medic and saw I had elevated numbers. At the time I couldn't keep my LPS alive so I took them out of my sump and all my problems went away. Again, no hard data as I was so new but I do remember that once gone I never had an issue.

I had 3 blocks in the sump of a 75G, since my tank was newer I probably didn't have a lot of beneficial bacteria and low nutrients which probably made the AL issue worse.

I’m about to send my water sample to triton for an icp test- i wonder what mine will show. If it is high not sure i would pull it tho cause i have lps as well but no issues

I also have a very high level of aluminum in my tank after having them for 8 months, have any of you changed to fiji mud from that?

I tried marine pure both blocks and balls, INHO the stuff is rubbish, look at it sideways and it crumbles. I saw no reduction in nitrate so I dumped it, it may have great surface area but to me is just marketing hype.

My vote is to remove it.

Well,

After I removed my marinepure lock I had some noticeable changes .

It’s the only thing I can think of. Most my sps lost color, phosphate raised a ton and I started to get RTN.

I don’t know for sure if that was the cause but thinking back and seeing my posts it sure adds up.

I can’t get sps to come back
