I just was curious who has ran a UV sterilizer for a period of time and then just removed the unit instead of replacing the bulb. I have not had any issue's with my tank and I really need to replace the bulb in the unit, so if you did remove a unit, did you notice anything afterwards? I'd like to remove it just due to sump space, which is why I ask.

Thx,

Luke

I had installed a UV sterilizer during a really bad bacterial bloom I had at the 2 month mark of my tank. I've left it running for the past 4 months and just removed it a few days ago. I've been wanting to remove it for the same reasons you're considering and finally decided to take it out.

It hasn't been very long but I see no difference in the tank now and when it was running.

Thanks Jimbo, I think i'll take it down this weekend and then see what happens. It was a great piece of equipment when I first started the tank but I don't think its needed to much these days as I never add any fish.

I'm in the same boat.. Put UV inline 3 months ago to clear bacterial bloom that just wouldn't go away on a new nano, 24 hours later my water was crystal clear.. Now I'm afraid to turn it off :D
