i think i have put this thing off for long enough... i have 3 colonies of Acans that have decided to REALLY make themselves a part of my tank. so much so that one of them has grown onto a rock, and held the rock onto the glass.

i can see from the reflection through the glass panel that all 3 have grown significantly onto the pane itself, and removing them will not be a pretty sight.

any tips and tricks for the least amount of damage when removing? or should i just leave them be and think of the corals as a part of the tank forever...

Pics!

if you want to remove them, just take a putty scraper or something similar and take them off. Acans are pretty hardy, you can cut them in half and they will regrow.

Since the glass is smooth corals will grow to the shape of the aquarium. If you let them grow long enough the skeleton will take the smooth shape but will only be loosely adhered to the tank. At that point a sideways push should release the intact coral with a flattened growth from off the glass. Wait and see.

I hope it'll be as easy as you say.

here are some more pics at night, showing the actual base and reflection from the glass underneath of the corals.

I really do hope they will just pop off mostly as 1 piece with no real damage!

I already broke off the area that grew onto the rock work when I had to move the scape around to catch a fish. ripped the skeleton from the polyp. x.x although it looked perfectly normal the second day.

it was very cool to see how the coral actually added to the rock with its own skeleton.
