Removing frag from plug

agree snip the bottom, mount to rock. you can cover any non encrusted areas of the plug with glue, just make sure its completely covered. Visually inspect it also with a flashlight, you can see the eggs if they are there...but still glue either way...

Thanks for the question i asked same question last night on different part of the forum and came away from that thinking most people attach the hole plug to rock work as opposed to taking coral off the plug

From ORA you are probably ok as far as AEFW but personally I would still cut it off the plug and dip it.

The reason I would cut it off the plug is because ORA uses those plastic plugs that are ugly and next to impossible to cut.

Regardless of where the frag comes from I dip, remove the plug or cut off as much of it as possible, inspect carefully and scrub bottom, then mount to a small rock or piece of rubble that I can then temporarily place for acclimation and eventually mount to rock work. I do this to prevent unwanted hitchhikers but especially because I hate the look of plugs in a reef tank. :)

Not sure ORA still use the rubber plugs but I use a pair of pliers and carefully squeeze around the plug to release the frag.

If a coral is encrusting onto a plug I will always leave it on the plug but cut off the bottom part of the frag plug obviously. Give it a nice dip in CoralRX and your good to go. I like to promote the coral in growing over the plug personally and dont want to hinder its growth by cutting off the live part
