I was wondering if anyone has any pointers for removing a carpet anemone from a tank. The anemone is about a foot wide and is attached to the bottom glass of the tank. It was the first addition to our upgraded tank and I love it, but it has moved from its original spot that it had been in for 6 months, unfortunately the spot is also a spot where my fish love to swim through daily. Today it took its first victim, my beloved eightline flasher wrasse male that I had in my previous tank. I still have two females., but I have decided it has to go. I don't want to harm it because I am looking to rehome it. On a second note does anyone know where to currently get another male eightline flasher wrasse? Below is the perpetrator. Sorry it's an iPhone pic.

Take a thin spatula and dig/slide it right under the foot. He'll contract so you'll be able to see a little better.

You can get the wrasse from liveaquaria.com

Good luck!

If it's just on the glass, then a gentle prodding by hand is easier to maneuver than anything else. I've heard of people using credit cards, but I've just gently used my fingernail to start the process. Once you get it started, it gets easier.

A fingernail is not easier. Use something flat and sharp but with blunt edge.

Personally, I would use my hands/fingers, and not a "tool" --- wouldn't want to risk damage to the foot because you couldn't feel what was happening; speaking from experience.

First, I would put on a glove.
Clear out all the sand from that area.
Slowly use your finger to pry up the eat of the foot, work your way around.
Take a break when you get frustrated.

first I would remove all the sand around at least the edge you want to work on. I agree use hand is best. You can feel it rather than try to do it blindly and rip his foot. Remove anemone from glass is easy if you have a shallow enough tank. My tank is 30 inches and my arm , the functional arm lenght is less than 30 inches. That is hard for me to remove anemone attach to bottom of tank, I have to use tool and have to be really careful.

I bought a 30" tank and definitely didn't think about sand level maintenance initially. Eventually, I sold the tank before even setting it up and went with a 24" tank. You should just pick up a snorkel set and go face in, haha...

I was speaking from experience as well, and "feeling it" is the best way to keep the foot intact. OP, please let it's know how things went. I'll fly down and help if needed ;)

There is no way using ur finger to remove a Nem is easier than a spatula or something like this.

Besides, I can feel what I'm doing. You guys must not have sensitive fingers. I can feel the spatula or window tint scraper literally sliding under the foot like butter.

If I tried to remove all the Nems in my tank with a finger every time one moved where I didn't like him, or got on the glass...I would spend all day moving anemones.

I guess everybody does it a different way. To each his own.

Reminds me of when I told the boys over at RC that I use a pill crusher to dose my medications.

"Why do you do that" "All you need to do is rub it with ur fingers in front of a powerhead"

If you have ever treated 6 Magnifica at one time, you'll know why a pill crusher comes in handy as does this window tint tool.

Not to mention...ever tried to rub ur fingers on a Septra pill? Lol

Nah
You got to get the pill crusher, then the plastic bags for this. Your profession make this easy, you can just get it from the hospital. Most other people it is not soo easy. Then we have to store the huge pill crusher when not in use. I only treat anemone now and then. Rubbing the pill is much better for me.
Regarding how to remove an anemone from glass, it is easy. There are many ways we can skin a cat.

As easy as that gig we removed from your rock at my house on the sidewalk outside with chisel and hammer? HaHa...

I would have loved to see somebody get a finger under that one. He He..

Now.... for anybody not working at a hospital, but would like to own a top of the line pill crusher, just type these 4 words into the Ebay search bar. "Silent Knight Pill Crusher"

It's a must have for any serious Expert Anemone Addict. If you shop around, you can find a good deal!

The OP asked about an S. haddoni, and I still think using your fingers is the safest route to go with --- been moving them that way for about 20 years now, never had an issue. The one time I used a tool, I damaged the foot.

Maybe the fact that years ago I was a bartender means I don't have as much feeling in my fingers any more plays into it, I just think it is the most prudent way to attempt it.

I did say removal of anemone from GLASS is easy. Not from the rock that he attached to for a year. You should have added that whole rock into your aquarium. Your aquarium would have been better for it. It is sooooo full of life. I cannot believe it when you want to remove him from the rock

I really liked him. Unfortunately, I lost him during the upgrade. :(((

I would never sell an anemone that was a gift. :-)

just a couple ised's

Use fingers when on glass. When on rock pull it out and hang upside down over bucket of water. Now take a butter knife that has been in a glass of ICE(have several knifes) Now gently start at an edge and touch it. When he pulls away, work it across foot till he let's go.

I do that too.

Hang upside down and work the foot with a butter knife or something similar.

Works well. :-)
