Removing hob filter

I ha e a 30 gallon reef tank setup. Currently have a hob filter installed. I recently installed a hob skimmer. If I remove to hob filter will it crash my tank? I want to cut down on the items hanging on my tank.

What were you running in the hang on back filter as far as media?

I have some filter pads/filter floss/ small sponge and some carbon.
