Removing Hood/Lip on RedSea Max 130D

Hello everyone! I was recently given a red sea 130D tank and I've seen a couple different photos of a mod where people have removed the hood and gone rimless with the tank. I really don't want to keep the hood because I would rather use some AI primes for my set up instead of the compact bulbs. Would anyone have any tips or pointers for how to successfully remove the hood and rim?
