So I have been changing my my, 40 filter pads weekly and realized that they are just a playground for deteriorating junk from thr tank. I removed them, just wondering if anyone can think of anything bad stemming from this besides an anemone walking into it.

I have 2x MP-10s and a XF130currently and have had many over the years and never ran the styrofoam covers on mine. If you have wandering soft tissue animals, there's always a danger but I've never had any issues ++.

+1 but with mp40qd's. I don't like the covers because they gunk up and start messing with the flow in the tank which only rolls downhill to effecting the corals. My 2 cents.

I think they are more for protecting certain animals. You don't want a wondering bubble tip to make its way into the pump. That's not a problem for me at the moment so I run them without the pads. But when I put certain things in the tank I'll cover up the pumps until everyone picks a happy place.

I sure hope I never have enough power in a power head to suck SPS into them hahaha. A majority of fish will be strong enough to swim out of danger.
