Removing phosphate

I use a fuge and if needed phosguard because it brings it down slow over 4 or 5 days.
I have a fuge with cheato. I have one lfs that says my phosphate are low and the other lfs says they are high and that cheato doesn’t remove phosphate

Nopox does little for phosphate, it’s largely a nitrate reduction solution.
GFO like Rowaphos, but be careful not to zero it out, or, drop it at a fast rate.
Slow declines over time so you don’t upset stability.

What is the concentration of phosphate in your tank?

and that cheato doesn’t remove phosphate
Yes it does. Slowly, but yes algae takes up phosphate to grow.

For dropping P, especially quickly, I agree GFO is a good way.

One factor is tank size. I have a small tank, so no room for a refugium, algae scrubber, or reactor. I've been using lanthanum chloride and so far it's been working out.

What I didn’t like about GFO is that you need a separate reactor to run it. I still run a homemade trickle filter that has an extra large drip tray purposefully constructed to allow me to put a large bag of phosguard in there. I change it every 60 days or so. Works well.
