I want to go bare bottom with my Waterbox Reef. In order to do that, I want the outside of the bottom pained white. How well is the self leveling mat attached? Is it difficult to remove and if so, would doing so destroy it? I have no issue sourcing a new mat.

That mat is going to be lightly stuck to the bottom. You will need to peel it off so that means you will need to lift the aquarium up enough to do this.

Please consider the size and fact that it weighs a lot filled.

Let's see if anyone has any processes that could help with this.

I'm glad to hear the mat is only lightly stuck.
Yes, I'm certainly going to have to turn the tank on its side to paint the bottom anyway. I don't think there's any structural implications to doing so, as long as it's resting on a padded surface (mat, cardboard etc), right?
