I have a colony of ORA Vargas Cespitularia (type of Xenia) and it has grown a good bit so I've been wanting to removing a chunk. However, I have a hard time get it off of the rock so do you guys have any suggestions or tips on how to best remove it from a rock.

JUst cut it as close to the base as you can with some scissors. Smother the remaining tissue with some epoxy.
Is there something temporary I could smother it with? I don't think having epoxy all of my rocks would look good

Not that I know of. Eventually though the epoxy will be covered in coralline algae, so it basically just a waiting game.

I use an old scaple so I can scrape off anything I don't cut off. I also have a big torch nearby to help with "trimming."

F aptasia and a giant water change and carbon afterwards. xenia are just like zoas when it come poisoning everything.

Yeah, i use f aiptasia to kill pocillapora, green palys etc....as well with moderate success. Turn off pumps, apply, do water change.

When you say F aptasia, is that the same thing as Aptasia X?
Also, do you think boiling RODI water sprayed over top of it would work?

never tried boiling RODI. F Aiptasia is a brand, google it. Its better than aiptasia X. It sticks to wherever you put it for a few days thus killing whatever you cover it with. Aiptasia X tends to blow away once you turn the pumps back on.

Awesome, thank you for the suggestion. Ill have to pick F aptasia a try

I get tweezers and rip them off from the base of the stem. Just finished getting rid of a colony. Love them but it was to much already lol.

I have always turned off the flow, taken a pair of tweezers and pulled it off at a 45 degree angle close to the base and it peels right off the rock!
Awesome! Thank you. I'll have to give tweezers a try
