Hey Everyone-

So I bought a rock from my LFS that was in their curing bucket. Large rock and used as a base rock in my tank. After its been in the tank a week, I noticed it was covered with Zoas. SOme nice, some just plain green. Problem is, that area where the zoas are is prime real estate for SPS. 300-400+ par, in a hot zone. Moving the rock is not an option as its the main base piece. I considered just putting my SPS frags right on top of them as they are now surrounded but not sure if that releases toxins in the tank. Not sure how to get these things out of the way without disturbing everything. In the pic I am referring to all those green guys. I do have a rock in a low light area of the tank with some nice zoas and even on this rock down lower or on the back side but I need that rock surface lol

Hi u can place the coral on top of the zoas. Prob easiest way. It’s a shame those are nice but it’s up to u. I would try to scrape some off to save them as frags then place the coral on top of the scrapped area. Thx

Thanks. If I remove the Acros from frag plates I could possibly scrape away one or 2 of the zoas to make room in the 2-3 areas Id use for SPS. Would Zoas and Acrtos right on top of each other cause an issue? I have zoas all around a monti which may encrust around them but all seem to be happy.

+1 on this.

But if you have to get rid of them without fragging... take some Kalkwasser or Aiptasia X and squirt it directly into the Zoas you want to kill. I may or may not have accidentally killed one of my frags when Aiptasia X got on it as I was trying to kill a fairly sizeable Aiptasia that was on the bottom of one of the Zoa heads.

I really need to replace those zoas. On the bright side, they were part of an 8 pack of Zoas that I won in a raffle that I only spent $30 for. I also lost another frag from that, so I still have 6 frags, including my Rastas, Fire and Ice, Stargazers, and Fruit Loops (I think, gotta check again lol) which also had some hithiking Halle Berrys on them.

But, based off my experience, Zoas die to Aiptasia X.
