Renting out par meter

That l
My LFS just rented one to me for 40 with no deposit. Some small business neighborhoods can still do business the old fashion way where your word is your word and still means something. Very rare now though.
That lfs owner must be bat **** crazy hahaha

On a daily basis I borrow tools to fellow mechanics that I work with for over 10 years and at the end of the day I still have to go over to them and ask hey where is my tool as they pull it out of there box to give it back to me instead of bringing it back when they are done with it!!!!!!

I don’t really have any ideas about a better way to rent. A $500 deposit seems like a good method, but it better be a top notch meter in excellent condition—in case the deposit holder absconds. I’m looking to rent one if anyone has come up with a better system and has a good meter to rent.

Just gotta have faith. Haha, I don’t know if there is a bullet proof way and most hobbyists probably don’t want to give a huge deposit to another hobbyist. At that point, most would probably just rent from BRS.

Or he still has faith in mankind with morals and values but the lottery seems like better odds.
Agreed. My lfs owner offered to loan me 4 suction cups at no charge to move a large tank. Last time I was in he let me take over $200 in livestock home and said he would call me for my CC info when his internet came back up. Actions like that assure that I will be returning to his store for purchases vs ordering online.

Yep and it really sucks when I would get busy and forget I loaned the tool out and blame myself for loosing it when I couldn't find it a week later. :angry-face:

Dude this literally happens to me once a month I’m super busy some porter or salesman walks up say can I use a screwdriver I say sure just grab one off my box they do and never return with it. Mean time a week later I’m scratching my head where the heck is my screw driver smh

Worst for me was when I found out the GM and a salesman broke into my cart one Sunday. When I confronted the GM and asked what the heck he was doing he said my cart was the only one they could get open. I flipped out and probably would have been fired if I wasn't the only master at the store.

It works. I don't advertise it, only word of mouth via local LFS and previous users.
I’m actually really considering posting in my local group to see if anyone is interested but using your same methods only. Full money upfront for cost of meter, check before and after, pick up and drop off only, for 1 week and most likely 40-50$ rental fee

Been let down by mankind too many times :disappointed-face:. Had a guy try a bait n switch with his 'broken' par meter. Luckily I checked serial #'s and for function.
yes the state of decline for obvious reasons not allowed to be discussed on here

I’ve offered to drive to someones home locally for the gas money or a nice frag. Central indiana area but haven’t had anyone interested. Sorry but my faith in humanity in general just isn’t enough to loan out a $500 piece of equipment. I have like 2 good friends that I trust with it, knowing if they break it they will replace it that I let physically borrow it without me being present to operate it. But in general you’re taking a huge risk trusting a random stranger!

This might not be a bad idea, actually to offer my services for a fee to drive to their house and help them use it. I could theoretically either be the one taking the measurements or the one writing them down and then when they are finished, I’ll clean off my meter and take it back home with me

I have the new parwise par meter with light spectrum . Very cool tool and not as expensive as the other meters offered for sale. That being said, I would have to be there while the meter was being used. I thought about it just to be able to see other people's setup.

Guy on my local fb market comes to your house with his, takes pics of your tank, lights on your main setting, test all areas and puts the numbers where he tested on the picture. Then he tries out other settings and placement and then puts it back and gives you the par ratings on the pictures.

What does he charge?

That’s pretty much what I can do….
