Purchased an old 110 with a stand cheap. I'm putting some work into the stand needed some elbow grease and new hinges. Real question is, how do you repair a crack on the plastic rim on the bottom. I was thinking an apoxy and clamps, then get a flat piece of plastic ? and apoxy that over both sides. Is there a better way, or did I just buy junk?

Mine did something similar. I elbow grease style cleaned both areas with rubbing alcohol and then silicones it down. But my crack included losing a chunk of the plastic.

Plastic trim is not just cosmetic, especially the bottom piece. once it's cracked it will never be the same again. silicone doesn't adhere well to plastics, so if you are going to repair it use epoxy.

Mmmm that's new to me!

Really depends on the tank manufacturer. if they use thin glass the trim will help keep it together. you never read stories of people removing the top trim for the rimless look, only to have the panels blow out? it happens.

So then if I clean out the crack, epoxy it, and epoxy a plastic strip over it to add extra strength it'll be ok?

If you have a pro tank builder they don't need really plastic trims.
But companies that put tanks together in a few days they better use it to cover up their unprofessional silicone work.
Also in many case it's used to keep the glass of the stand as the tank is just sitting on the plastic rim.

Hmm I'll have to look into that. Had to Google it to make sure it existed. Learned something new.

I wouldn't say it will be OK. But that's the appropriate fix, short of replacing the entire trim, or tank.

I used to trash the ugly black plastic trim and replace it with a nice hard wood trim for a overall better appearance.
Of course you do this when tank is still empty.
We did this 30+ years ago as the first full glass silicone tanks weren't as pretty we have them now.
They used to have the plastic trims on the corners as well.......... so ugly.
The custom tank I have now for 6 years doesn't have any plastic trim.
