Is it possible to replace a skimmer pump, assuming it will fit, with a pump not meant for it?
Particularly, I'm looking at the Reef Octopus INT150. On this skimmer, the pump is attached to the outside of the body. It's an Aquatrance AQ2000s pinwheel pump, with a max water flow of 198 GPH, Max air 720 L/H (25.2 SCSH), 5.3" x 2.7" x 5.7".
The Sicce PSK1000 has a max water flow rate of 264 GPH. The Sicce site lists the air flow as 8800 GPH (33,311 L/H). I'm guessing that this is a misprint, and the actual air flow is 880 GPH (3,331 L/H).
The pump can be threaded into the INT150 body easily enough, even if an adapter is needed. Would this work? The main reason to do it would be increased pump life. A secondary reason would be increased performance. The only real concern I have is the difference in air rate, though this might not be an issue.
So, is this a good idea?
