So, I have a 4 bulb around 5 foot long aquatic life fixture with 3 Hydra 52 LED lights mounted front to back on the fixture. My T5 bulbs and LED bulbs are going on 2 years old. The reflectors (and bulbs) have a lot of salt spray on them so, I think I'm going to take the fixture down for matinenance (a thorough cleaning of salt spray and wiping down).
So, I'm planning to have someone come over and help me lift it down (ceiling hung) and replace the T5 HO bulbs and clean the reflectors / LEDs.
Two questions:
1. I'm thinking of using Citrix acid to clean the salt off the reflectors? Would that work or is vinegar better finishing with Window cleaner or something like that?
2. Also what type of bulbs should I go with? I think they're currently the Coral Special T5 bulbs, I have 2 on one side, the LEDS mounted front to back, and then two bulbs on the back of the fixture to make sure the lights broadcast the full 3 feet width?
I've noticed some parts of two of my corals die and the rest of the branches growing. So, I'm wondering if it's the loss of light intensity, the parts being hit by the LEDs are growing and the rest didn't sustain with the faded T5s. Hard to say, but, either way. Looking what would be best for coral growth and colors. Will the new bulbs and cleaned reflectors shock the corals too much?
