Ok collective wisdom! I was told by a "ro filter company" that I should consider replacing the actual system, not filters, about every 10 years or so. Was told that as the canisters age they become brittle...

Mine is almost 15 years, so has anyone ever replaced their system due to age? Or had age related problems?

Although I can see the logic behind what they are saying, unless the system is in sunlight for all or part of the day, I doubt it will become brittle...

That said, if the "ro filter company" is local, they may know more than the average Joe about the water your system is processing. Municipal water has some funky stuff in it sometimes, so it would not surprise me if those chemicals slowly wear down the plastics, fittings or gaskets over time. If they are local, I would get a second and third opinion from other local resellers.

I certainly won't be replacing mine until the part springs a leak; but I can afford the leak (i.e. there shouldn't be any water damage).

Not local at all. Nowhere here for me to purchase anything related to reef tanks except Lowes... LOL...
