Anyone ever completely toss the display rock and replace with something like West mariculture makes? Or even just new base rock?

I’d keep the fuge live rock, but my thought is buy the new and let it cycle in a separate tote and make the swap... thoughts? Pros and cons?

I’m tired of my aquascape, too much rock, not enough open space and I’m limited to placement of corals.

It can be done...you would just have to watch closely for any ammonia spikes. The bacteria numbers will probably differ quite a bit between the DT rock and the cycled rock, so it might go through a mini cycle when you put the rock into your DT.

Think it would be better to break in down too 1/3 or 1/4 and swap fresh pieces for old? Give it a month then do another piece? Rather than all at once?

It would definitely be safer that way.......a lot depends on how much livestock you currently have in your tank though. If you have very little livestock, you could probably get away with doing it all at once, as long as the new rock is cycled....otherwise I would do it in pieces if possible.

I’ve done half and half before. No issues with that that I’ve experienced. I added a bio block a couple of weeks prior to changing out rock to populate that with bacteria and pick up the workload until the new rock cured.
