I have a pump I use to empty our above ground pool for the winter. Could I disinfect it and repurpose it for a mixing station?

I'm not using this for the pool any longer and didn't want to let it go to waste.

I'll see if I can find one. It is a submersible with a hose attachment. I think it will do well for moving water 30 feet for water changes but I was concerned more about the pool chemicals.

I know there is a difference between just a water pump and a marine water pump. I think it has to do with exposed metals and such... Submersible seems like it would make it more likely to be ok than a non submersible. A good vinegar soak for a few hours with the pump running should clean out any kind of chemical left in there.

As stated, it’s best to know what make and model the pump is. All of the saltwater hobby pumps sold as such are okay to use with saltwater, which is corrosive to untreated steel and some plastics/rubber.

Pumps not designed to pump mildly corrosive liquids would not be a good choice. Best to know what your dealing with before use.

If anything the pump wouldn't last as long. Ya could rinse it well after use.

I don’t think you have to worry about residual pool chemicals, those should be able to rinse out. I’d be more worried about metal corroding and damaging the pump and leaching into the water. Little bit of copper (I.e. any brass components or fittings) and the reef is toast.
