I am setting up a new tank and want to be able to pump new SW from trash can in garage to the tank.
Distance= 30 feet
Height from bottom of trash can to top of tank= 8 foot
typical transfer would be a 20 gallon water change.

Not sure how to evaluate claims on the pump boxes. Probably prefer a submersible.

Panworld is awesome external. I'm using an old quiet one 5k for the same.

I tested the 5k and the fluval sp4. They'll both pump from the basement to main level with no issues.

Could go with a Good old Mag Drive, good solid pumps, somewhat easy on the wallet. I would stick with atleast the 9.5+ myself for that plumbing setup.

The only problem with magdrives is energy consumption and heat generation. It might make your water warmer than you'd like.

Definitely might be a concern, I was just going off of him looking to use it as a transfer pump. It's not being constantly used so energy shouldn't be a huge issue. And the heat from it being transferred should be negligible for the short time its running :)

I appreciate everyone's input. It is only going to be used around once a week for 20 gallons or so. Unless of course everything goes south and I have to do massive water changes.

True. I was thinking of it being used to recirculate and mix is why I said that.

I figured and it's still a good thing to know about the Mag Drives as they can be both huge drawbacks to IMO otherwise fantastic pumps.

I'm still in a huge debate (With Myself) over what pump to use for my basement sump setup. It's about 10ft vertical height and 15-20 Horizontal. And as much as I love the Mag Drives, the constant high energy consumption is a little concerning lol

Theyre about the best pump you buy dependability wise. I know people that have run them since b.c. times

And yes, I only had mine running for a few years (Mag 7) and it was still going strong with no cleaning ;Sorry

Pan world was an option I was toying with, what model would you recommend for that pipe length and height? Critical issue being my return line is 1" so when you get into the bigger pumps that can be a huge bottleneck.

Full disclosure I've never run a panworld but I've seen a bunch. I was looking at the 50px for my application, but changed my mind after i realized I had a free quiet one 5k.

I think the 40- 50x is 3/4 with only 10ft a 40x will probably get the job done.
