I have a 46 gal bow front with a bunch of coraline. My problem is I have too many dead spots. I plan to remove all my rocks and corals (50+ lbs). Should I stir my sand bed and do a 10 or 20 percent water change after or not mix the sand at all. Should I clean my rock? (has some algea on it).
Thanks in advance.

If you wanna fill a 5 gallon bucket with tank water and give the rocks a bath and maybe blast them with a turrkey vaster it wouldn't hurt... As for stirring up the sand it's not recommended it can cause a cycle unless you do little parts every 4 days or so.... Be careful with it and don't over do it if so... Besides that you should be fine..;)

Thanks Troylee... I have some dead spots on my sand bed where some algea has started to grow and I also am not real happy with the rock placment. My thinking was to stir the sand to loosen up any bad stuff then do a 20 percent water change to help get things cleaned up. I also would like to know if it would be wize to do a real good cleaning of my fuge. Would this be a problem causer? My tank has been setup for 4 yrs and I haven't done anything but clean the glass in my fuge.

Thanks guys. My nitrates are at 0 so that is not the problem. It just came to me that when the tornados came through here in April I got a power surge. My t-5s have not seemed as bright as they where before the storm. They are about 8 months old. I have been developing some green hair algea but my tank did take a hit because I was too busy doing search and rescue and was unable to care for it properly. My alk was 7 now 8, cal 320 now 340. so it is slowly comming back with water changes. Do you think a bulb change is in order as well? I also have a reefbright led 50/50 on it and 4 t-5 2 act and 2 10ks. What are your thoughts?

Often, you can gently syphon out the algae on top of the sand, but be careful not to stir it up. You will lose some sand in the process.
