So i got a 30 gallon tank that may leak if i fill it up with water. it leaked once before and its been sitting in the sun for the pass year or so after i dismantled the tank. i need some suggestion on how to reseal it with silicone. I bought a large tube of marineland silicone. I hope it can hold. Anyone got any youtube videos of a walkthru? And suggestion of a better silicone or is the marineland fine? Personal advise?

razor blade off all the old silicone, i mean all of it. I would than soak the tank in vinegar, rinse it with water. Than apply the new silicone. You will want to cut a 30 degree algne on the end of the tube and hold it at a 45 degree anglelaying the bead and working away from the start point. If the silicone doesnt curve from glass edge to glass edge, wet your finger and run it down it to create a nice clean tooled edge.

Just do it somewhere that you can test it for leaks after it cures.

Agree with the above posts. When I resealed my 50 gallon tank I used rubbing alcohol to make sure that the glass was cleaned really well before applying my new silicone. I also taped my corners to help to give me a clean line, I removed the tape after the silicone had cured.

I also used alcohol to wipe down the glass, i would use alcohol over vinegar.

Seems hardly worth the trouble or risk. 30 gallon tanks are cheap

I like the $10 tube of silicone from Grainger, seems to have a stronger bond. I used a dremel to get the stubborn silicone off. Soapy water worked for me, water alone left me with sticky fingers

I really don't think i would use a Dremel, a razor blade should be more than enough. If its stubborn coming off you just may need a new blade, but a Dremel you risk breaking the glass or chipping it which would weaken the tank over all.
