I did closed my macroalgae business due energy prizes and bad luck with my lately salt mixes. But i am very happy that i still get so many questions if i sell macroalgaes and then they are disappointed that i doesn't sell anymore.
So i try again to get back on my feet, but try to get it with lower costs then before.

Since i rehomed all my fishes, i wanted to stay fishless with the frag system.
I am going to start the tank with ATI Absolute Ocean, then i am dosing ammoniumbicarbonate as a fertilizer and also going to use Co2.
As replenishing the alkalinity and so on i would go with All for reef.
And now i am at the point if i start the tank without any substrate and life Rock, since bacteria also consumes stuff i would rather put in the macroalgaes than just in bacteria.

Is there going to be any problem without any bio filtration except the macroalgaes?

Just to make sure - you're starting a coral frag farm - and along with that you're going to be growing macro algae?

IMHO, without the specific details it's hard to answer your question. If you're going to be harvesting macroalgae, that will also be removing some of your filtration. Though you're 'fishless' - are you planning to feed your corals? If so, you may have other issues. it would seem (to me) - that just putting some live rock in the sump is a much more consistent filtration idea (and much simpler) - than your plan - especially (again) if you're going to be periodically harvesting Macroalgae. What happens, for example if for some reason your macro algae does not do well? Live rock and a bacterial substrate are much more forgiving. Again JMO. Best of luck with your plans

It is a frag system for only macroalgae, no corals at all. And because i got sometime more or less in the System, i think it is easier to maintain if there is no substrate and life rocks.

Interesting concept. I think you are saying you are using a traditional Frag System setup to grow Macroalgae. There are a lot of elements that need to be considered, such as light, flow, water chemistry, etc. I am interested to see how this works out.

Yes thats what i did before, but i had substrate, skimmer, life rocks because of the fishes i had. Keeping special fish in a commercial algae farm is a pain in the a.. and did cause alot of trouble.
So i try to go the clean as possible way where i can calculate better, because there is only algae inside of the system

I think something is lost in the language - A frag system implies coral. So - if what you're saying is - can you grow macroalgae - with the chemicals you asked about - yes - Part of the issue here was the meaning of the word 'frag'

Yeah, probably language issue. I fragmentate my macroalgaes, so the smaller ones are frags for me
Should call it algae cultivation System next time

You can grow your macroalgae in anything you want with light and nutrients:). Best of luck

Good to know. Did grew it before in normal tanks with fish, substrate and rockwork, but it is alot of maintance to keep everything happy and looking good, with 3 tanks at 660g total.

Kannst Du uns benachrichtigen wie es geht?
Can you let us all know how it goes?

I will. As for the CO2 dosing, i did it in the past, worked great with a PH Controller.
Normally my macroalgae Systems have a pH around 8.8-9, did push the PH down to 8.0-8.2 with Co2, macroalgaes did grew very good.

But i am new to the ammonium dosing.
