Great to find an active and informative community like R2R. I had fish tanks most of my life and got the Saltwater but in the early 2000's. Kept up with a 29g and 20g mini reef through a crazy time in my life with lots of small kids and 60h/week jobs. Put that aside for a while and not find myself with the time and saved up some money to make a go at a real mixed reef system. Also have an 8yo son who loves building projects and is a budding scientists so will love the testing part. (could never pull my daughters into it)

It's been amazing to see the progress made on so many fronts since I've been out for the past 6 years. There have been so many advancements in LEDs, controllers, lighting options, powerheads, and low nutrient systems it's terrific. Fascinating to see things like closed loops, kalk, MH heat issues becoming less common overall. At the same time some things don't change such as the importance of great skimming, benefits of refugiums and amazing corals.

I'll start a new build thread once I feel like I know what I'm doing. So far planning a mixed reef that will let me try SPS.

DT: 180g
Lighting: T5/LED retrofit. Leaning towards 4x 80w T5 for whites and LED black boxes (?2) for blues
Basement sump: rubbermaid 150g. Water mixing station and RO/DI are installed. Dead rock waiting to be cured.

Learning a lot from the community already and hope to keep learning.
