Restarting My 24G Nano

After draining both my systems and having no water running in tanks in my house (well, except for my son's convict tank -- and my wife's beta bowl) for two months, I finally got things going again yesterday. Added water and some live crushed coral and rubble and circulated water and checked out equipment. Been prepping the old rock for a time. I had let it sit dry for a couple months, then froze it. Today, I poured boiling water over it. Freezing again now and another boil tomorrow. If the algae and hydroids of doom don't die now, I'll give up the hobby. Yes, I really like this single, 20-pound rock that basically fills up my tank by itself. If all goes well, it will be in the tank tomorrow -- and thus will start a few weeks of sitting and waiting for water to settle. If all goes well, I'll be adding fish and coral in a month.

Soooo....

All those zoanthids that everybody thinks everybody has and nobody wants, I'll be wanting them soon. Keep me in mind for the lower end ($10 to $20) frags, anyway.

Sound like you know what you want. I'd invest in a good clean up crew early to keep that algae at bay on that nice rock. Pics?

Tank is settled and the snails and crabs are busily working on the accumulated algae. About ready to add a few zoas and perhaps a fish or two. Very interesting starting from nothing again -- haven't done that in years.

Sure! Just send me a pm or text with details of what you have and when/where you can meet. I can also wait unt the next meeting if that works better for you.

Also, if anybody has $10 zoanthids frags, let me know - I can afford to get 3 or so by next meeting. Just looking for ones that I'm sure everybody has - not trying to grab up darth mauls or the like on the cheap. Probably try to add a hammer or duncan at one point, too. I'll get into the fancy stuff later as funds permit. I've always preferred the hardier stuff given my propensity to ignore my tank for weeks at a time.

The snails (primarily the astraes) did a great cleanup job. I had about 2" of hair algae growth on all glass surfaces when I put them in there a week ago. Now it's all clean and clear without me doing any scrubbing. The rock and substrate look downright sparkly too. . Here's a photo for comparison:
