Lately I have been fighting marine velvet. I tried the reef safe option, it worked on controlling the spread of the disease, the surviving fish are better and healing up, but I know that it still exist in the tank, so replacing my dead fish will be almost impossible. I read about the fallow period of 76 days but I will be traveling within the next few weeks and I can't keep the rest of the fish in quarantine for that long I want a faster option. I decided to restart the tank.
Everything has been removed and placed outside so it dries. The tank now is empty of water and dry. I read the TTM quarantine and it says to make sure to remove and dry the equipment for 24 hours to kill any parasites, so I'm wondering if I kept the equipment to dry 24 hours or more (I'm planning maybe a week) will this be sufficient to kill all parasites like velvet, ich, flukes ... (I live in Dubai where outside temperature nowadays reaches above 100 degrees, so I believe its hot enough to dry the live rock and porous material in a day or two). Some suggested using bleach or vinegar to be on the safe side, is it worth it, I don't want it to leach later on to the water.
What do you think? I know that going fallow might be a better option, but there is no space for another big tank, so the remaining fishes are divided into 3 smaller quarantine tanks and maintaining them all will be a headache for 76 days. I was thinking that using this method in around 2-3 weeks it will be up and running again.
