I am ALMOST ready to get this tank wet for the first time. After months and months of reading, asking questions and reading some more, the time is almost here. I currently have the Lifereef sump, with the protein skimmer and overflow, but today I've been reading up on these ghost overflows from reefsavvy and synergy which each look very nice!! I'm thinking of selling the Lifereef before I use it and drill the tank before it gets wet and adding a ghost....thoughts or opinions? The lifereef looks great, but it just looks bulky for inside the tank...maybe it's just me. Tank is a 65 gallon and I'd prefer the water level to be as high as I can get it with an overflow.

I've had a HOB over flow similar to the one you have, it worked. I always worried about the power going out and when it came back on there would be a flood because the siphon didn't start. I've also had a drilled tank with a coast to coast over flow. That was much better never worried about floods but it took up a lot of space. I now have a synergy overflow in my new 120. It is the nicest overflow, very slim on the inside of the tank. Dead silent when tuned properly. Works great, has multiple plumbing options and is easy to clean. For me it is part of the tank's circulatory system and is money well spent. I love mine, and will never use a different kind of overflow. Unless of course Reef Savvy or Synergy comes up with something even better.

I'm looking at "The Shadow" from Synergy. Looks very sharp. Any other opinions on the ghost overflows compared to the HOB's?

I know I saw the release post about those. They do look nice, much more slick than the model I have. I bought mine just a bit too soon. If I could trade mine in for the molded one I would. No glue seams to worry about!
