I got a partially bleached Australian torch about three months ago and at most it had about 1/4 normal polyp extension... I had it placed in the lower part of my tank running Chinese bb at 80 blues 40 whites and tank parameters have all been fairly stable for LPS. Did have some alk swings about 2 months ago. Can look at previous posts for water parameters. Is there any chance of it coming back? You can see it at lower left of tank. I don’t have any close ups as I am out of town at the moment.

Looking for advice on what to do with a sick torch.

I would place it at the sand bed and hope for the best. Keep your water parameters as stable as you can.

Sort of an impulse by back then... should have done more research after learning these guys are plucked from brackish water making them a bit more finicky to keep.

I bought a 3-head torch about a 6 weeks ago, it seemed to acclimate very well, i had full extension, etc = but for the past 10 days, has not been extending more than about 1/2 inch. I have moved it a couple of times, thinking it needed lower flow or lower lights than where it was. has not made a difference. might be sick and need iodine. I'm not seeing slime or anything that would indicate it is sick, other than it won't extend. have tried target feeding, etc. It is in a separate place in the tank, not near anything else that could have attacked it. My hammer is fine, and other LPS and SPS are doing well with polyp extensions. Not sure what else I can do.
RedSea Max 400s, AI LED lights.

Ca- 450
Mg - 1400
Alk - 3
ph - 8.2
salinity 1.025
temp - 78
No3 - 0
PO4 - 0

Any ideas? I don't want to dip it 'just because' but I can't understand why it isn't doing well and the hammer is.

Just my two cents here, but from my experience, Torch is the one Euphyllia that likes a bit more flow than the rest of the species in it's family. As far as what it could be, these are very sensitive to changes in Temp and Alk. Miner always gets mad in the summer for some reason.

The one thing none of them like is to keep moving around. You mentioned it has been doing this for the past 10 days and you have moved it a few times. That is a red flag. Find a spot that you think it matches the recommendations for Torches and leave it there for a while, i.e. a month or two. As long as it is opening some, it will stay alive.

These are the recommendations for this species.
Care Level: Moderate
Temperament: Aggressive
Color Form: Brown, Green, Purple, Yellow
Reef Compatible: Yes
Water Conditions: 72-78° F, dKH 8-12, pH 8.1-8.4, sg 1.023-1.025
Family: Caryophylliidae
Lighting: Moderate
Supplements: Calcium, Magnesium, Strontium, Trace Elements
Waterflow: Medium
Placement: Bottom

Thank you for the detail. This was very helpful. I think my temp was a little high also (79-80). working on all the parameters this week to keep temp and alkalinity stable. About 3 weeks ago, my alkalinity got too low and I had brought it up to the right level but probably should have taken a couple of days to gradually lift it rather than 24 hours. Possibly the reason it got angry.

put it in the sand bed! had a very similar problem with mine, it was about half way up in the tank and it wouldnt open. put it in the sand bed, reduced my lights down 10% ( AI Prime) opened right up without affecting anything else in the tank

What settings do you have your lights on? I’m at 90% except red and white. Those are off

That's a lot of light. I have a Prime HD mounted about 8" over a a Nuvo 10, and my torch is thriving 12" down on the sandbed. I use the BRS A+B settings proportionally toned down to about 60% of full power. I also have a hammer and several types of Zoas, all down on the sandbed and multiplying with the following settings

UV- 72%
V- 70%
RY- 48%
B- 48%
G- 3%
DR- 2%
CW- 10%
