So I have a 40gl nano all in ones. And in the return area came with a mess filter witch sucks, and if I try and put a finer mess filter on it clogs up super fast and throws my water leave out of balance. So I wanna put in a filter sock. The area is a 3x3 in area with a surface skinner drop of about 2.75in. I’m fine with trying and build something to work but would much rather buy. Anyone have any ideas?

You dont have much room. There are 2.75" filter socks. You will need to suspend it. My thinking is maybe an egg create stand or make an acrylic holder that is suspended from the opening. If you can find a pvc pipe that the sock will drop into you could drill a bunch of holes in the bottom and use that.
