Some questions about DIY eurobracing....

- is glass preferred over acrylic?
- how thick should the strips be and how wide. for lets say a 6x2x2' w/ 3/4"panels
- What silicone do you all recommend
- Is it just as simple as running a bead over the top of the glass and placing the glass on, like is there anything I need to do beforehand?
- Anyone in Toronto or Canada know a good place to buy glass
- how should the strips be layed out?
- oh and how would the lights be mounted

Glass on glass with silicone will give you the best bond.

3.5-4" will be overly sufficient

Run a bead on the long end of the tank and the short sides of the brace and slide it in, fill any gaps and secure to cure.

Thanks, how thick should the bracing be? 1/2”?, any specific brand of silicone you would recommend? The bracing shouldn’t be tempered right

I'm curious why you need your embracing with three quarter inch glass over only a six foot spread.

1/2" thick should be fine.

I'm not in my shop right now to see what I brand I'm using recently. I've jumped around a bit.

also which layout for the bracing is better?

Is having it on top of the glass better (like most eurobraced tanks Ive seen) or inside the glass better (like the new red sea tanks)

Left side is what I'm used to seeing.

I can't give it definitive answer on the second one. I can't say that in theory it should be the same. Strength is coming from the silicon connection between a long end (glass face( and short end (glass edge)of glass. No matter which direction you orient them, They should have the same surface area of silicon attached.

I'm probably building my next monster tank And will probably have the braces sitting on the top just so that I can retain that extra bit of space for access.
