Retrofit LEDs burned thru my plexiglass

About 8 months ago I put steve’s led retrofit lights in my biocube 29. Just today I noticed the lights have burned 2 holes completely thru my plexiglass and two more spots are starting to burn thru. The lights do not touch the plexiglass and I have no idea why now it would suddenly do it?? And if course I can’t simply replace the plexiglass bc they don’t make it anymore . Any thoughts why this happened?

yeah kinda sucks that it even has to be done...... but blame physics.

apparently the uv diodes are so powerful, the light will bounce off condensation or anything else that accumulates on the outside of the splash guard. this creates heat and will melt the splash guard.

Makes sense. Kinda like a magnifying glass on paper in the sun.
