Retroing a 48" T5 to a 36", is it possible?

I have a DIY 2 bulb 48" T5 setup with end caps and I want to retro it to a 36" setup. Is this possible or will the ballast have too much wattage for the shorter bulbs?

The ballast may or may not work (may fry the bulbs). Usually they are sized for the wattage and number of bulbs of the specific application. Although I have seen some ballasts that are more generic. It all depends on the ballast. Ballasts are relatively cheap though so you could always just get a new one.

I've been told that it will probably work but the bulb life will be shortened greatly.....
