So, I am putting an 80 gal reef tank together (No SPS for now), and wondering what flows should be on the return pump and the wave makers. I'm looking at a DC return pump that maxes out at 3100gph, but for my head pressure would be about 2500. Since it's a DC it's adjustable, so probably no issues there. My other question vexes me a bit more. On the wave makers, how much flow do I need? Would 2 that each do 1050gph be enough for my tank, or should I go for 2 of the 2100gph models? That seems like overkill to me, but I'm still a newbie at this.

I learned the expensive way... get the bigger wave makers and dial them down if need be... I’ve been thru 4 sets at this point... increased each gph each time.

Yeah, thanks for that. Trying to avoid the expensive lessons whenever possible. They will be attached to a controller, so i will be able to dial them down easily. What should I shoot for in gph per head?
Also, I was told return pump volume should be about 10x my tank, or 800gph. Is that good, or shoot for more as well? If more, what's a good number?

That was a very informative video. Thanks. I ended up going big on both. Got a Current eFlux DC return pump that will do almost 1500gph at my head pressure height. Also got 2 Current eFlux 2100gph wave makers. Both can be controlled by my Current lights with the loop system. I do have a third 2100gph wave maker I can put in in case I end up with dead spots
