Return flow direction

I am trying to decide how much the direction of my return flow matters.

What I'm not sure about is if the direction can affect skimming from the water surface into the overflow box.

Does anybody care to give me a little input on my return flow? Will this be okay or should I tweak anything?

I'd lower the head by 1/2" to 3/4" so it's under the water (otherwise when you turn off the pump and turn it on again, the outlet will be way above the water).
