Return getting slimy

Why does my return look like this? It’s a new tank 8weeks and I do have some diatoms in the tank that’s what I was thinking but just don’t know for sure.

If it is slime, its biofilm. Probably gram negative water bugs (bacteria), nothing to worry about. Infact I would be happy, system has bacteria. The slime is a protein coat excreted by the bacteria as a protective shield, It builds up and sloughs off over time. then comes back as the bacteria replace it. Quit normal.

Welcome to the hobby:) Nothing to worry about like other have already mentioned. You're gonna see soo many things occur to your system that you didn't expect, like new critters popping up out of the blue, etc. Reefing is truly fascinating if you pay close attention to the bio-diversity in your system. Good times.
