Return gurgling

I have a 40 breeder with a single overflow on the back in the center. How do you quiet this style? I don’t really have any room vertically or the water level will be above the overflow.

Maybe puting a foot long piece of 3/8 or 1/4 tubing in the drain to help the air pass without gurgling
