I drilled my return line a little too high. I have a rimmed tank and the nut side of the bulkhead hits the trim so I can get it flush to the glass. Any ideas on how to remedy this?

There are so many ways to skin this cat, so at least you are not stuck. The main purpose of that nut is to put even pressure against the glass as you tighten it. If it was me, I would take a piece of scrap metal tube that was slightly bigger than the nut and heat it up red hot, and hot knife through butter it. But not everybody is going to have that laying around. A dremel as mentioned before will work with the proper bit. You could also make a "D" washer the same thickness as the trim, out of plastic and use that, to take up the space. You could also just razor blade the trim around the nut.
Any of the solutions said should work, just pick the one you are the most comfortable doing.

All good ideas I'd say. You could also get a smaller OD washer close to the same thickness as the trim and use it as a spacer. Or put the gasket inside the tank and tighten against the trim on the outside.
All my gaskets go inside the glass, or opposite the tightening nut anyway.
