Hello, I’m currently working on my plumbing for my sump. I’ve finished the drain line but I ran into a problem when doing my return line. The Jebao return pump I bought can only take in 1 inch of soft tubing.

I’ve heard that soft tubing is better on the return pump anyway so how can I connect soft tubing to hard tubing?

Do I use these two?

Or do I use these two?

Go on amazon and search hard pvc to soft plumbing adapter and you will find what you need, I dont think any of those are for soft tubing to hard

I can’t find any other adapters on Amazon. Just a bunch of Slip x Male thread adapaters like the one I shared above.

“barb” is the fitting type that soft tubing will connect to. The other side of the fitting is whatever you want it to be. Ie. Barb to threaded, barb to slip fitting, etc.

The most common I’ve used, which you can find at most hardware stores is barb to threaded. So you use: hard pipe > slip to threaded adapter > make threaded to barb > soft tubing. Just make sure the threaded diameter matches the threaded barb. And the barb outer diameter matches the hose inner diameter.

Alright, I’ll use the insert x socket adapter shown above alongside regular pvc glue. Do I need to buy teflon tape? Also, can I use zip ties instead of the hose clamps for silicone tubing?

For anything threaded, you’ll need teflon tape. Just make sure not to over tighten.

Zip ties might help, but you probably can’t clamp down enough. The worst case scenario is the hose pops off, and the pump sprays water everywhere. Probably worth the few $ in clamps.

Okay, so to summarize this is how it should go right?

PVC -> PVC glue and primer -> Socket x insert adapter -> Hose clamp -> Silicone tubing -> Hose clamp -> return pump.
