Will be building my reef tank soonish and I got it used. Want to re pipe the return line. It is a 3/4 inch pvc line, Can I do part of it flexable tubing? I know I want to put in a check valve but what else do I need. Would go over the top of the tank as there is no return line drilled. Only the drains are drilled. I am using a DC pump so no need for a valve on the return line.

Have a pic of the configuration ?

Is there just a single drain with a gate valve? I like the return as is, if you go with soft tubing you will need to fasten it to wall or something and then connect to PVC to return over the tank rim otherwise it will slide around I imagine.

The drain line is 1 inch and has an emergency drain at 3/4 inch, not connected at this time I need to get new bulkheads and replace a few pieces. The guy I got the tank from cut the piping on the drain line a little too close to one of the unions.

I think on the return line I will run flex tubing to the straight part of the current configuration and loose the valve as I will be using a DC return pump. I would like to see if I can fit in a UV into this system but not sure what one and how.

On the useless scale (where 10 = most useless) a 3/4" emergency/open channel is a 9. A common mistake I suppose, but I'd swap them.

So the main drain should be the 3/4 hole and line and the emergency should be the 1 inch? Not my mistake when I got it that is how it came plumbed. Live and learn
