How does everyone like to position their return nozzles? Do you keep them slightly above the water surface or completely under water? I have tried both ways and am not sure what is best. When they are slight above even by the littlies amount they move the water in a way that creates bubbles on the surface of the water which doesn’t look great. If they are under water I feel like there might not be enough surface agitation for gas exchange.

Mine is 2-3 inches under the surface in the center they y off going right and left aimed upward for surface agitation. I get enough flow from power heads down low. 180 gallon 6ft tank

Reefer 170 basically a cube comes out to one side. It's aimed high as well but to the left to create a bit if a sweeping motion to help guide stuff to the over flow. I've always had my returns toward the surface and powerheads for lower circulation. Each tank is probably different depending on what other stuff you have for flow. 20220619_183958.jpg

I run two return nozzles. I keep both of them about 12" below the surface and aim one upwards and the other one slightly down. Like @BanjoBandito said my powerheads help with the surface agitation.
