So I’m curious as to what I can add to my return pipe so it isn’t just an open flow back into tank. If I have to buy something to make it better and easier please direct me.

Yeah I got some on my other tank, they’re great.I'm not sure what adapters you would need but VCA Random Flow Generators would be a really nice addition. They too function off of locline fittings as mentioned above.
Edit: oops, read you're msg to quickly and misinterpreted. Adding a loc-line is a good idea as stated above.

Drill a small hole to make a siphon break or keep the amount of submerged pipe in the display tank to a minimum so only a small volume of water will be siphoned to the sump before the siphon breaks. Absolutely do not rely on only a check valve.
My holes are right as it tees into the water.How would you go about placing the hole?

This is what the discharge going into my tank looks like on the back of the tank.. would a tiny hole in the top of the elbow work? Would putting a tee in place of the elbow and add a reverse check valve to it work as an anti siphon?
