Return outlets on the tank

At the moment I have my return outlets going all the way down to the bottom of the tank do you guys think I get more benefit out of them if I make then shorter and have them closer to the surface?

Luis, mine point downward angled at the back glass so or rolls down and then front back to front at the bottom.

I think with your bare bottom setup that maybe the best way to go to help keep detritus from settling behind your rocks. I have mine pointed at two spots I conceived having low flow.
