I see two options but you can suggest others if you've got an idea!

I drill a hole in my peninsula tank on both sides of the overflow and the water returns via these holes which are an inch below the bottom of the weir (does that sound right?)

OR

I've seen people have the pipe come over the tank and drop done splitting into 3 different lines that lead to loclines close, mid tank, and near the other end.

What are the advantages and drawbacks to these? Wouldnt the loclines result in less water being siphons back if they only stuck down slighly below the water? Other considerations on these options besides siphoning?

Evening,

I’m not sure I follow along. A pic or 2 may help showing what you have. Maybe another has the same set up that can help

I'll try to describe is better. Picture a peninsula tank, there is a hole cut in the glass on the short site of the tank (the width side) and return water flows through this hole back into the tank.

Or water returns to the tank via a few loclines which are distributed across the long side of the tank.

I have three pipes coming over the back and then loclined. If the mouth is submerged just below the waterline but the rest of the locline is above the waterline the back flow syphon is minimal

On a peninsula tank, IMO you want to conceal the plumbing as much as possible so the the only option to me is your option #1
