Return Pipe Plumbing Questions

As far as I know, they are only available in 1". They should fit inside of a 1.5" bulkhead with the use of a PVC 1.5" to 1" reducer adapter.

Hmm website says standard inlets 1.5 inch and standard outlets 1 inch wasn't sure exactly how to interpret that.

Either way I'm going to buy them seems like the best bet.

I went back and looked at the page on the OM site where the Omni Flex Nozzles are shown. It is misleading. The 1.5" inlet and 1" standard outlet they are referring to, is the size of the inlet & outlet on the 4-Way valve itself. There really isn't any description of the Omni-Flex Nozzles themselves on that page. Strange that it is like that.

I see now, thanks for the help I'm not too familiar with the product. I bought them I imagine I can make it work some how. Even if I have to have a reducer in the bulkhead. You say they spin on their own?

No, they do not "spin." They are infinitely adjustable to place the direction of flow wherever you want it, but they are not automated. If you want that sort of thing, check into "Sea Swirls," that has a nozzle that oscillates from side to side. They mount on top of the tank and do not require a bulkhead. I am using two 3/4" Sea Swirls on my upcoming Reef Savvy build. Those do come in 1½" versions.

You might find some useful information here:

PVC pipe manufacturers do not recommend teflon tape or pastes for threaded fittings. I list a couple suggestions in the sticky post including my favorite the LaCo PVC thread lubricant sticks. Take a little extra time and clean up the threads and mating surfaces on threaded parts an bulkheads and it will save you a lot of headaches in the future.

Option 1 is offers less head/frictional loss.

Sorry to dig up an old thread but this is exactly where I have been stuck for the past few weeks. I have a 7' long 420 gal tank with two of the 20" Shadow overflows setup in a beananimal configuration. The return pump is a Reeflo Super Dart / Snapper Gold Hybrid (4300⁄2400 GPH) that has a 2" FPT inlet and a 1.5" FPT outlet. I already have three return points -- one on each end and one in the center. I ran 1.5" pipe from the return pump up to the tank and then reduced that to 3/4" bulk heads with 3/4" Loc-lines. Since there are three returns, do you think this will work? If so, maybe I can fill it up and get it underway. I have waited to add water because of my uncertainty in this set up. Any advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Reeflo recommends double theinlet and outlet size. That being said if pump is really close to sump for suction than 2 inch is fine because you would be restricted by the fittings anyways.

For outlet I would use a 1 1/2 to 3 inch adapter then 3 inch up and over the tank and reduce at outlets to 1 inch X 4 outlets.

It is what I changed on my remodel on the 660 setup. But I just bought a DC sine wave pump. Going to try that instead of my reeflo that is the same as yours.
