Hi all I’m upgrading to pvc piping . what size return should I use? My over flow box pipe is 1” . Should I use a 1” return or will 3/4” return work . My pump is syncra sdc 7.0 I need 800gph

The size of the tank is not what determines your pipe size. What is your return pump? How many drains, or what overflow design (Bean Animal, Herbie, durso)?

In most cases 1 inch works well.

Curious, how can you make that determination without any information about the system?

If you have a 1 inch drain to the sump a 3/4 inch return is standard.

It’s a 75 gallon with a wet dry sump system. I’m using hang on the back overflow 1 drain .The You tube is a 1 inch. Return pump is Sicce syncra sdc 7.0

You will have the same number of return lines as drain lines. You want a larger drain then return. Your overflow will be the limit on flow rate

I think in most cases 3/4" is fine for a 75, but the OP mentioned a Sicce Syncra SDC 7.0, which looks like it comes with 1" and 1-1/4" output sizes. For this reason, I'd say go 1" on the returns. I believe this is what the OP has:

From the BRS Site:
Features
  • Neptune Apex Fusion compatible
  • WiFi Enabled Control System
  • 5 Year Warranty
  • Completely Silent
  • Includes 1" - 1 1/4" Barbed Fittings
  • Includes 1" NPT Pipe Adapters
  • 16.5 ft Max Head

Interesting. Wouldn't you want the overflow to be able to handle Niagara Falls if needed (exaggerating, of course), and make the return pump the limit of what can flow through the system? This way, the return pump even at full blast cannot out pump the capacity of the overflow and cause a flood. I'm genuinely asking. Thank you!

I'm sorry, large drain then return

The overflow has a max gph, you have to turn the pump down to what the overflow will flow. On a 75 I would run 600gph at the top on a overflow rated for 800. Plenty for a 75. He chose a return that will need to be choked to 3/4 inch.

For the record, OP edited their post… At first the only information was “75g tank, what size pipe?”. Anyways, face saved :face-with-tears-of-joy:
It's all good
