I'm just getting into the hobby and have no idea what I'm doing...especially when it comes to plumbing. I need very detailed instructions so I'm going to post about one specific problem at a time that's holding me up.

#1. Please let me know what specifically I need to purchase to connect my Sicce Syncra Silent 4.0 that will be inside my sump to my Glassholes 3/4" Loc-Line Return Kit.

If you have time to post links from Amazon or BRS I would really appreciate it. People have posted that I need a "3/4" slip hitch and go street taco V fit" so I Google it and get even more confused. From watching BrsTV I think I would like to use braided Vinyl tubing to connect to the pump and then PVC up to the return with a valve somewhere, but let me know if there's a better way.

#2. Can I cut PVC with my miter saw? Do I need a special blade or will the one it came with work?

Thanks for any help you're able to provide!

I can't specifically help you with the exact pieces needed for your first question since in not familiar with that pumps output size. But i would suggest drawing out what you want to do first. It helps a lot to do that.

As for your second question...yes, you can use a miter saw. But, you will need to sand the edges very good after cutting and before attaching the pieces... the little burs, etc can make for bad connections. I would recommend getting one of these pvc pipe cutting tools listed below... makes it so easy to cut without jabbing to run to the garage constantly... and the cuts are clean! They are easily found at home depot or other places.

First, yes, the miter saw will work. Just take some sandpaper to the cuts to smooth them out.

There are many ways to do the plumbing but I'll see if I can help. I am going to provide links from BRS which are more expensive but you can get the same things anywhere.

The 3/4" bulkhead in that kit is thread/thread. The first thing I would do is get an adapter to go from thread to slip. This screws into the bulkhead.

Then, we need to turn it down. You will need to cut a section of PVC pipe just long enough to connect the above piece to this.

You can then use a straight piece of pipe down to a union valve.

Attach another piece of pipe to the bottom of the union down to a barbed hose fitting. Using what BRS has available you will need a slip x slip coupling

To which you will connect the barb for the hose.

Without a picture I'm not sure if this will work for you but it is the simplest way to do it imo. You may need more elbows and offsets depending on how your system lines up.

#1 1st draw out a diagram of what you want your return to look like or how to perform. Do you want a single return, dual return, hard plumed, soft plumed with braided hose?

Here is a rough sketch of how I would do it. You can find all of these parts at your local hardware storeI suggest you bring your pump or attachments that should unscrew or slip out of the pump and find the correct pvc or braided hose and barb fittings that fit your specific pump.

#2 The tool that @Idoc posted is the best too you can use in my opinion. If you can feel any raised edges after you cut your PVC make sure to sand it or if you have a router you can use the bit that tapers the edge to a 45 degree angle. Any raised edges may make your PVC glue not bond correctly and you may have leaks.

I hope this helps. I am currently plumbing my new tank as well. Have fun and take your time.
