In my piping back to the sump there are 2 holes on the sides of the pipe that suck some air and make a noise of water gargling. There is also a small tube on top of the pipe that allows the water to return back to the sump with out any bubbling. Any reason why the holes on the sides could not be fully submerged

It's an air release so when it back siphon with the pump off it dosent take all that water down to the sump area.

The bottom picture. Hard to make out the top picture.
I see the water getting sucked down though.
Add a coupling piece to get it lower possibly to avoid that.
