Woke up this morning to find my return pump being off I don’t k kw how long it was off for and I don’t have a back up pump. I quickly moved the heater to the display and turned on my power head what else should I do until I can get a return pump later today.

Tank should be fine. Lots of flow at surface for gas exchange and keep temp and your good. I ran 2 months no sump when I was redoing my tank. My No3 and Po4 actually went down

Thanks for he quick reply. So I should run my power head closer to the surface?

Ideally you should see waves on surface to break surface tension to allow gas exchange.it will help any loss of air from the skimmer being off line. And just keep an eye on everyone. If they swim near surface they need air. If you have plenty of rock ammonia should not be an issue

If you have an old air pump and air stone this can help with gas exchange and water movement. Also the higher the temp the less oxygen in the water.

Check and/or clean your impeller and the hole and see if pump fires back up. It takes as simple as a snail to seize/prevent impeller from moving as it should

Thanks for the reply. I did clean pump and did vinegar bath it did turn back on but this morning back off again new pump will be in today

One trick I read about - for critical equipment, have a backup. I bought a used return pump (Sicce) which I use to mix and transfer fresh saltwater during partial water changes, so it gets used but is also available in case my return pump goes down (which is also a Sicce).
